Maria Sharapova and Porsche share a lot in common. Looks, beauty, style and a commitment to excellence. They also share a distinctive roar while in action. Sharapova, with her deafening grunt heard at tennis venues like Roland Garros and Wimbledon. Porsche, with its deafening engine roar resonating on roads from the Autobahn to Pacific Coast Highway. So it was a perfect match that they would go together. In an announcement to hit both the automotive and sports worlds, tennis player Maria Sharapova has been appointed as brand ambassador for Porsche AG.
The winner of four majors and a former overall Number 1 player in the world, Sharapova currently ranks as Number 3 in the current WTA standards. Though coming off a difficult upset loss at Wimbledon, she has been spotted working out hard on the beaches of Southern California. But she took time out her training sessions for a photoshoot in Manhattan Beach, CA. In true Southern California fashion, her first photoshoot with Porsche featured her wearing light blue shorts, a sporty top and sandals. The other stars of the photoshoot were the convertible Porsches that she posed next to.
On hiring Sharapova as brand ambassador, Porsche AG CEO, Mattias Mueller said, "Maria Sharapova is an exceptional athlete. She combines top performance in her sports with elegance and power. These are precisely the qualities that are embroiled in our sports cars". He added on the difficulty of finding the perfect brand ambassador, "Maria Sharapova is the perfect choice. Her profile and charisma are an ideal fit for Porsche. She is also highly respected around the world and enjoys an outstanding reputation."
I guess the ball was set in motion when she won Porsche’s annual tennis tournament in 2012. As winner of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart, the 26-year old Sharapova won plenty of prize money but also a white 911 Carrera S Cabriolet. The Porsche would fit perfect in her trophy along with her Grand Slam titles. Along with being the new Porsche brand ambassador, Sharapova is also involved in her own charity, “The Maria Sharapova Foundation” and she is also an ambassador for the United Nations Development Foundation. The tradition of excellence continues with Porsche and it is equally represented well with their new champion.
